Wow! This book has completely captivated me and made me feel the need to remind myself that this is a fictional novel.

This is well written and very accurate. I felt as though I have been right there with the characters. Although, covid is present in this one I have still found myself caught up in the pages of this one.

I have been completely intrigued by this one. The author has stole my attention and kept me completely gripped.

This is tense and completely brilliant from beginning to end. The plot is really realistic and the author has a fantastic talent of pulling you deep into the pages.

Weyward by Emilia Hart

Thank you to Amber at Harper Fiction for my advanced copy of this gem.

From the Cover:

Kate, 2019
Kate flees London – abandoning everything – for Cumbria and Weyward Cottage, inherited from her great-aunt. There, a secret lurks in the bones of the house, hidden ever since the witch-hunts of the 17th century.

Violet, 1942
Violet is more interested in collecting insects and climbing trees than in becoming a proper young lady. Until a chain of shocking events changes her life forever.

Altha, 1619
Altha is on trial for witchcraft, accused of killing a local man. Known for her uncanny connection with nature and animals, she is a threat that must be eliminated.

But Weyward women belong to the wild. And they cannot be tamed…

Weaving together the stories of three women across five centuries, Weyward is an enthralling novel of female resilience and the transformative power of the natural world.

Discover the power of being Weyward in 2023’s biggest debut

My Bookish Thoughts:

A Weyward woman belongs in the wild and should not be caged.

This is a gem to read and what a wonderful debut I have devoured in just one sitting. The characters that fill the pages of this gem are interesting and completely captivating.

The journey through this one is intriguing, interesting and beautifully written. Each woman has their own story which is connected by determination and the strength of the characters.

We are introduced to Altha who is tried for being a witch, Violet who has an abusive father and Kate who is enduring a violent relationship. Each story will touch the reader one way or another.

I have found that this has flowed beautifully and been a book completely unlike anything I’ve read previously.

Hart really has a talent for story telling. This is completely captivating and immersive. I found myself hooked by this. Weyward is definitely a book that has converted me as a fan of this author. I need more.

Weyward is a brilliant read and one that needs to be on everyone’s TBR. I have loved this debut from Hart. This is a masterpiece from beginning to end and one that I cannot recommend enough.

The Burning Secret

Thrilled to join the blog tour for this one today.

In 1844 Enoch Price was born into poverty. An ambitious youth, he becomes a bare-knuckle fighter amongst London’s underworld. In debt to a violent and unscrupulous moneylender and facing ruin and imprisonment, he escapes to Jacksonville, Florida, abandoning his wife and three young daughters, a decision that will haunt him for the rest of his life. By the time he arrives in Florida, Enoch Price has become Harry Mason.

Through a series of thrilling and risky escapades, he plays an important role in the development and history of Jacksonville, building an extraordinary new life of political and financial notoriety, the shooting of a rival, and the concealment of a murder. Despite imploring his wife to join him, she declines, exhausted by his lies. Tormented by loneliness and guilt, Harry seeks solace through a bigamous marriage, leading him into a web of deceit as he tries to conceal his true identity and past. Meanwhile, lauded and enjoying popular success, Harry is elected in 1903 to the Florida State House of Representatives with the prospect of becoming State Governor. He advances his business interests through a series of corrupt practices, becoming a wealthy and successful politician. However, success brings neither happiness nor contentment, and, seeking redemption, Harry plans to return home – but life is rarely that simple as the First World War breaks out, the Spanish flu pandemic takes its toll, and the American government introduces prohibition. Will there be a good end for Harry, or will his secrets prove to be the death of him?

This is historical fiction based on real life events. That was what intrigued me about this one from the beginning. My curiosity wanted to know what this was going to explore and what events I would be reading about.

This is an entertaining read and one that could easily be on tv or big screen. This is a book that has kept me guessing from early on and hasn’t disappointed.

This is a book with some really serious key themes: love, crime and cheating. Each of these have added their own element to this book. This has clearly been well-researched and I would love to know more.

This is a new author for me, I highly doubt this will be the last book I read by this author. Enoch has been interesting, I enjoyed the journey into the depths into the underworld.

The Burning Secret is a book which is dramatic but moves at a great pace. This is a book with adventure and morality all rolled into the pages of one great read.

I will absolutely recommend this book to fans of the genre. I look forward to seeing what the author writes next.

Summer of Secrets

In this emotional novel based on Greece’s real history we follow three generations of one family, broken apart by secrets and war, as Olivia travels to the island of her mother’s birth to piece together a century’s worth of her family’s past.

On the Greek island of Castellorizo young Sofía must put her big dreams on hold to support her older sister Maria with her large family. But World War II is looming and while the idyllic island may seem far from harm at first, there are unspeakable dangers on the horizon – perils that will change the sisters’ lives forever . . .

Devastated by her divorce and the death of her dear mum, Olivia seeks solace on Castellorizo. Her Granny Sofía fled the beautiful Greek island during the war, but Olivia knows little else about her family’s history. The only link to the Island she has left is her elderly great-uncle George. As his memory begins to fail, Olivia feels her one chance at uncovering the truth about her grandmother start to slip away.

As a mother’s sacrifice echoes throughout the generations, will Olivia discover some things are best left in the past?

This is a gorgeous read, I’m so thankful that Tracy has introduced me to Wilson with this tour as I definitely need to be reading more books by this author.

The Summer of Secrets is a gorgeous yet emotional read which has been one that I have devoured. Olivia is a stunning main character and the journey through this one has been a rollercoaster that I haven’t wanted to end.

This is beautifully written and flows perfectly. Wilson has transported me and I feel as though I have been with Olivia finding out the secrets that are hidden in the pages. Sofia has been an interesting one to read about and on times, I’ve found it rather thought provoking.

The setting of this is gorgeous and Wilson sets the scene perfectly. This is a story which I’ve thought about for a while after reading.

I am a converted fan of this author following this book. This is a great read and one that has converted me as a fan of the author.

My Best Friend’s Secret

Absolutely thrilled to share my review of this one.

Kate Sullivan has a beautiful home, a job she loves and a handsome fiancé: all she’d ever dreamed of since getting sober and painstakingly piecing her life back together.

But a chance encounter with her old best friend Becky threatens Kate’s newfound and fragile happiness. Kate remembers nothing of their last drunken night out, the night Becky broke off their friendship without warning or explanation.

With Becky back in her life, Kate is desperate to make amends for the past. For the closure she craves, Kate needs to know what she did that ruined everything. But what if the truth is worse than Kate could have imagined?

Wow oh wow!! What a book!! I have inhaled this gem and been completely captivated and pulled into the pages of this one. How is this a debut novel? How will any review I write do this gem justice?

Emily Freud is really going to be a name to watch out for in the world of psychological thrillers. This is a book which will steal your attention and leave you desperate to find out what the secrets really are.

Kate is one of our main protagonists, she is likeable and honest about the issues she has experienced. We follow her journey as a recovering alcoholic who is keen to rebuild her life. We encounter the chance meeting with Becky on a night out with her fiancée. This is where we really start to see unraveling of secrets.

This is well written and laced with tension and suspense. I have been completely caught up in this story and unable to predict where this was going. I can safely say I’ve been left speechless and completely wanting more from this author.

Emily Freud, please get writing because I 100% need more. This is an absolute MUST read which definitely should be on the TBR. This is a book that absolutely needs to be a bestseller.

Happy reading,

Her Sister’s Secret

Thrilled to join Bookouture for this one today.

Why would you pretend your life is a dream when you’re living a nightmare?

I thought my sister was happy. I thought what we all thought: that Annie and Dom led perfect lives in a lovely cottage in a quiet village by the sea, with flowers at the front gate and an apple tree in the garden. Everyone knew them: generous, loving Dom, creative, joyful Annie.

But I never saw Annie as she sat waiting for Dom well into the night. I didn’t see her smiling through her tears. I didn’t know what the perfect couple were hiding.

So when sirens break the silence of the night and flames rise against the dark sky, and I get the call I never expected, I’m left with a simple burning question: who was to blame?

A brilliantly twisty tale of family secrets and the darkness that can lie behind closed doors, Her Sister’s Secret will keep you turning the pages till the final devastating revelation. Fans of Lisa Jewell, Gillian Flynn and Louise Candlish will love it.

S. E. Lynes is one of my favourite Bookouture authors and this has been a book that I have been eager to get stuck into.

I absolutely adore the cover of this one. It catches the eye and is eery making you want more as a reader. As always with this author, I haven’t been disappointed. I have been pulled in and completely unable and unwilling to put this down. This is a book I have devoured in one sitting with no regrets. I just wish I could experience reading this for the first time all over again.

The author has real skill and talent, this is a plot which unravels backwards, but makes perfect sense. The novel is compelling from the very beginning and moves at a pace to keep you completely wanting more.

This is definitely filled with twists and completely unpredictable right up to the very end. I love the characters in this one, they are strong with well developed personalities.

The more I read this author, the more I crave. I am already eagerly anticipating more from this lovely lady. A definite recommended read!

A huge thank you to Rosie for my advanced copy of this one.

Albert Entwistle was a postman. It was one of the few things everyone knew about him. And it was one of the few things he was comfortable with people knowing.

This is another of my anticipated gems for the year. The gorgeous cover instantly stole my attention and I was pulled in very quickly.

I absolutely adored Albert, his dread of retiring has been clear from the very beginning. This is a heartwarming, light and sweet story with deep meaning.

Throughout the novel, we find out about Albert’s traumatic past. There are so many characters supportive of Albert. I just want to hug him.

This is completely unique and I love the fact that the author has included the exploration of Albert’s sexuality.

I love Headline books and this is another delightful literary masterpiece. It has been a pleasure getting to know Albert and I have really enjoyed looking back at his life.

It has been an endearing journey which allows Albert to find his voice and open up to other characters. I absolutely need more Albert.

This is a definite five star read which I highly recommend.

The House of Hidden Secrets

Thrilled to join the blog tour for this one.

The imposing gates of Ramsay Hall yawned open. As Serena and 4-year-old Lana walked up the long driveway, little did they know the dark secrets that lay within.

When Serena Green accepted the role of housekeeper for wealthy widower Hayden Ramsay, she never imagined her new home would be Ramsay Hall, an ancient, sprawling mansion in Northern England.

Serena quickly becomes an integral part of the household, making friends with Hayden’s younger son Hugh, despite Jack, his older brother’s, coldness towards her and Lana.

But the hall’s beautiful exterior hides many ugly secrets. Though Serena and Jack begin to grow closer, she’s confused by his behaviour around Lana. What is he guilty of? And is there more to their mother’s death than the Ramsay men will admit, even to themselves?

As the harrowing past of Ramsay Hall unravels, Serena fresh start becomes a fresh horror. She fears for her and Lana’s safety, but what are the bleak secrets in Serena’s own past?

This house is built on a lifetime of lies… and the truth might just bring the walls crashing down.

A twisty, gripping and utterly unputdownable new thriller that fans of Lisa Jewell, C.L. Taylor and Mark Edwards will love.

This is a book that attracted me from the very cover. It has instantly caught my eye and been a book that has raised intrigue.

I have not been disappointed with this twisty and gripping novel. I have been pulled in and completely unable to put this one down. The author has captured my attention and kept me hooked until I devoured cover to cover.

I have really liked Serena as a character and following her journey throughout this book. This is definitely full of hidden secrets and as a reader it is brilliant to see the events unfold.

I cannot wait to see what the author has in store for us next.

Trading Secrets

Celeste Donovan, a high-powered finance executive, seems to have it all—the penthouse apartment, the supermodel physique with a mathematician mind, and a trail of beautiful men she has loved and left behind.

But when her boyfriend Theodore is killed in a mysterious accident, she discovers Omar, her abusive ex she had hoped would never resurface, is behind his death.

Now she’s caught in a game of cat and mouse, trying to anticipate Omar’s next move, as she realizes he will stop at nothing to get to her. She sets out alone on a whirlwind journey to entrap him, determined to put an end to Omar’s destruction.

Soon Celeste is thrust in the middle of the largest financial scandal in decades. This time, however, powerful government officials are in bed with some of the world’s most dangerous men.

When she discovers that those she thought she knew best are involved in a secret society warring with Omar and his coconspirators, she must decide how far she will go to avenge Theodore’s death and whether she is willing to risk her own life to save everyone she loves.

I adore Celeste, she is a brilliant main character who is a strong, powerful woman who doesn’t take any crap. What a protagonist to have for own main character.

However, we do have some rather graphic accounts of her abuse at the hands of Omar. These scenes have been uncomfortable and may put many readers off this book.

However, I have to say that this is an action packed novel which is filled with details. The author has really wanted to give us a clear picture to visualise when reading this one.

The mystery and suspense are high throughout this book. I have been happy to find this is focused on Celeste’s survival rather than the horrific ordeal. We encounter the great friendships that Celeste has in her life. This has been an interesting read and one which I am thrilled to review.

This for me is a four star read purely because of the uncomfortable scenes of abuse.
